Summer fun

The summer of 2016 is in full swing and already the boys are having the times of their lives! That is, after they do their chores, brush their teeth, get dressed and do a little summer homework. I know, I'm such a mean mom! They'll thank me for it later...or maybe not. But anyways, here's a recap from the past few weeks.

They clean their bathroom all by themselves! Well, they have a 4-page list of things to do in the bathroom complete with which spray to use on which apparatus, but they don't need any help to make it shine!

Polly loves watermelon! She can't get enough and she takes it outside to eat it, like we're going to take it out of her mouth and eat it for ourselves. Silly goose!

Our cousin Kim came through Atlanta with Mike and the girls so Dawn, her girls, Todd and the boys and I went to meet up with them at Atlantic Station.

One of the first McVentures of the summer was Lake Acworth and the giant inflatable slide. We took our third son, Grant with us and he loved it! I'm sure we'lł be back here later this summer.

Woodstock city hosts outdoor movies and we took the boys and their friend Bryce with us to watch Zootopia. It was a perfect night to watch a flick under the stars.

The boys got fitted for some orthodontic appliances at my office. They're actually pretty excited for then they come in. Let's see if they're still excited to wear upper and lower retainers with expansion devices in them! That didn't hurt! LoL

Todd took the boys on a father/son golf day. They actually played 9 holes and loved it!

I took Linde, Leah, Keely and the boys to Panther Creek Falls near  Tallulah Gorge. The trail was a bit hard to find at first but once we found it, we were on our way. It's a 3.5 mile hike in and the same 3.5 mile hike out. It was a bit of a difficult hike traversing along cliffs, loose rocks, copperhead snakes, and over creeks, but everyone did great! Each kid fell at least twice, most thrice and came home with some bumps and bruises, but they were worn out and dog tired...just the way I like them!

Another father/son outing at the Atlanta Silverbacks game and thank goodness they are back after a season's hiatus. The boys really enjoy going to watch the games and now they get to play on the field before the game starts.

At Camp Gramps, they did all sorts of Athens-fun stuff. Here, they got to meet Greg McGarity, the Athletic Director of UGA and surprisingly, he was in Larry's band! Who woulda thunk it!?! Just kidding. If you grew up in Athens, chances are, you were in Larry's band and even if you weren't, he still knows you!

The boys were super stoked that that got to see Herschel Walker's Heismann trophy and his helmet that they have on display at the Butts-Mhere building on campus. They said, "mom! Herschel had a LOT of stickers on his helmet!"  Yep, son. They don't make 'em like they used to.

More adventures to come, so stick around!

A lot of lasts...

Last Thursday marked the last day of 3rd grade for our two. It's come and gone so fast and they couldn't have made us more proud. We ambushed them when they got off the bus, and even though they knew it was coming, they were all good troupers and we all got soaked.

Then, this past weekend was their last soccer game/tournament with their awesome Striker family. They had 2 tough losses on Saturday in which, they played against one of their best buddies, Reed got a slight concussion, we went to lunch and the movies in between games, Nolan headed the ball awkwardly and hurt himself and then they passed out on the way home.

Sunday was their last game of the tournament and the whole team played amazing! The coaches feel like they had a load of rust to shake off and if we could have started the tournament on Sunday, we would have won it all. Oh well, they made the most of it and brought home a win over a team that was likely to go to the finals.

Thank you to Jammy and Grandy and Nana for coming to the game and cheering them on!

The morning of the last game, Reed wrote this on the chalkboard before we left the house.

Last but not least... Polly said good-bye to her long locks!

Not so friendly

This weekend the boys were supposed to have their last soccer tournament with the Cherikee Strikers at the NASA Friendly Cup.  However, the rain had other ideas. Since the fields we were supposed to play on apparently flood a good bit, the whole tournament was cancelled from the wet stuff we've had over the past 24 hours. The boys were super bummed so we decided to go ahead and tell them that their Cherokee Strikers won't be together next season, either. (We're not sure if this was a good idea or not, but it seemed like the best time to tell them!) The YMCA has decided they don't want to financially support the academy team and want to focus on Rec leagues. Whatever!
A couple of the other kids on the team thought it would be a good idea to get together at a jumpy house so we joined them. The boys were happy to be with some of their teammates, it's like they didn't even get any bad news all day! Onward!!

Update

The boy McLure's have been hogging my iPad so it's been difficult to update our goings-on in the recent weeks. I'll keep it snappy.
We went to a movie outside downtown Woodstock and met up with a whole host of different people. Our Italian friends, Cam and Nicole, Julie and her oldest boys and the boys good friend Kayla hat they play with at school. I didn't snap too many pics because they were all running around everywhere.
Reed we to a birthday party for a classmate so Nolan and I went on a date. We went to the movie, played putt-putt and out to dinner. He doesn't like the fact that I called it a 'date' and gets rather mad at me when I refer to it as such. For now, we shall call it an outing.

The boys had field day at their school last week and it was utter and complete managed chaos. They were running here and there and everywhere and it was hard to keep up with both but I did manage to see them in a few different events.

No matter what fun they have away from the house, they still love to play with their buddy Grant...especially if it involves running around in the rain.

Soccer is almost over but they are still hittin he grass hard by making their own obstacle courses to dribble through and work on their footwork.

Last but not least, to bring us to today, we ended the weekend at the Roswell bike races downtown with a few family members. Ride on!
