Bubbles, bubbles everywhere

Today marks the day that the boys ran their first ever 5k. We got up early and set the navigation for Gwinette County Fairgrounds. This place is huge and the perfect spot for a preliminary 3.2 mile run for 2 six-year-olds. The whole 'race' was inside the grounds and thru the parking lot, so I didn't have to worry about one of my minions running into traffic. In fact, as soon as we started the race, Reed took off and we couldn't find him. About 15 minutes later, one of Lindara's friends called to say she found him and did she want me to hold him or let him finish running. I said if he's ok and wants to run, carry on!! And he did. I got another call about 10 minutes later from Lindara that he had finished and was with her. So funny! He really thought it was a race and had to run his fastest to get to the finish line.

(The funniest part of this is later when we were eating dinner, I asked Reed if he cheated and cut corners of the race. He proudly said "no, I just ran faster than you". Immediately after he said that, he said, "what were the cones for?"  Ha!!)

Meanwhile, Nolan and I took our time jogging, sprinting, and walking but we did it and we all finished...covered in sweat, bubbles, colors, and colored powder. It was so much fun!!!

Afterwards, to celebrate, we went to Raging Burrito in downtown Decatur and Reed had a burrito the size of his head! (And his head is on the large side...) Nolan opted for the nachos and he mainly just ate the chips and kept taking the cheese off. Cheese!?! What a weirdo!

Next stop, second grade!

As the kids got off the bus yesterday for the last time this year, we (the moms, dads and a couple older siblings) ambushed them with 4 coolers/wagons of water balloons! The boys didn't know what to do at first and so we just kept pegging them and getting them soaked. After a minute or two, they finally came and grabbed some balloons of their own and started fighting back. Happy last day of school!!

Famous last words...

I promise I won't blow it too loud!! LoL. This is my life. Two boys...making bad decisions...for the next eleven years. (And probably then some). I'm scared, excited, nervous and anxious all in the same bundled ball of motherly emotions. This will not be the last "hey, watch this" moment, nor is it the first.

Athens, take 2

Polly got to go to Athens this weekend for her first visit ever! I can't believe this is  her first trip but she had more fun than she was ready for.

She figured out how to put her head up through the sunroof and LOVED it!
First item on the ticket,  Mamma's Boy for brunch. This place is usually packed with lines around the corner. Thankfully, we got there at a good time and got a table right away. This place was smack-yo-mama gooood!

After a downtown excursion and a trip to Wal-mart for some much needed UGA gear, it was finally time to see some tennis. Most of the UGA players had been knocked out of the bracket but the women's doubles were still in it (and have since made it to the finals today!!!)

Lastly, Jammy and Grandÿ took on the daunting task of babysitting while Bob, Mika, Todd and I went for a brewery tour and a night out on the town.

How crazy is this?!? This dog was at the brewery (the brewery is more like a big open field where you can bring chairs, frisbees, dogs and all sorts of other stuff to make it a fun evening). When I saw this dog for the first time, he came over to sniff a husky puppy I was petting. I about wet my pants!!! I talked to the owner about 20 times that night and right before we left, I offered her $800 for the dog. Thankfully, for my bank account she didn't accept and I was only 1/2 way serious. But the dog was so dang cute!!!

And this Pomeranian was named Todd.

Snake-a-dile Todd-dee

This weekend we took a little jaunt to Athens to visit Jammy and Grandy and go to the NCAA tennis tournament. Little did we know, upon arrival Todd had to slay a 95 foot serpent straight from the gates of hell! Ok, well, it was a 4 foot copperhead, but as far as I'm concerned this beast was staking us out for his next meal. Drastic, I know, but it was kill
or be killed and my snake wrangling days are over, time to let Todd do the work. (I'm seriously so creeped out I can't believe I'm posting this picture to the blog.)

It's time to let 1st grade go!

"Let it go, let it go, it's time to show what I know.  I'm on my way to 2nd grade!"
Sang to the popular movie song "let it go," Reed and Nolan's teachers filled in words of their own to have the kids sing at their awards ceremony. It's been a tear jerking past few weeks helping them learn the words to the song and I'm sure there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd when they sang it live.

After their songs and dances, the teachers gave awards in their rooms followed by, what else, donuts!! Mrs. Campbell awarded Reed as the King of Recess. She also mentioned that he was truly a gentleman and asked everyday if she needed him to wheel his chair outside for her. I'm pretty sure he just wanted to sit in it and wheel it like a skateboard, though! After calling his name, he was instructed to 'strike a pose' on the red carpet. Not sure what kind of pose this is, but he owns it alright!

Reed was the only kid in his class to be awarded the Art Acheivement award from the art teacher. He also was awarded a certificate for excellent attendance. He loves Mrs.Campbell!!

Nolan's teacher, Mrs. Blades, allowed the kids in her class to vote on superlatives. Apparently, his peers think he's one 'cool dude' because he was awarded with the York Peppermint certificate for being so cool! (He later traded his York candy for the kid that got the smarties! Ha!)

We have a 3 day weekend for Memorial Day and the boys go back to school from next Tuesday-Thursday for their last week of 1st grade. 😭 Where have my babies gone?!? LoL. These are the fun years! Watch out 2nd grade..

Simply the best

This past weekend, the boys played in their first big soccer tournament. They played with the pre-academy soccer team through Cherokee county's Y program. The tournament was held at the NASA fields in Marietta where they played 2 games on Saturday and then a rainy Sunday game led to a tie. Too bad the team they tied with didn't have enough goals (equal to points) to pull off the big WIN! Whoa, their first tournament playing with boys 8 years old and these two six-year-olds gave everyone a run for their money. It was an exciting weekend of futbol, fun to watch and be a part of and fun for the boys having a cheering section and a coach that really did a great job. Looks like soccer is definitely in the future but for now, rec league will have to be the source of their play.

1st grade field day

Last week Todd went to watch the boys partake in their field day festivities. Both of them were picked to do the relay for their classes (only 4 kids per class were picked). They were exhausted at the end of the day! Thanks, field day!!!
