So, Steepelchase was 2 weekends ago, and last weekend we went to Athens after the boys soccer game to relive some old glory days of college and show the boys a good time downtown. We watched the races, watched BMX jumpers, watched two little boy jump on on jumpers and trampolines. The weather forecast called for a stormy day with no sun in sight. On the contrary, it was a cool overcast day that turned into abundant sunshine!

Off to the races
Two Saturday's ago I took the boys to their 4th running of the races, Steeplechase Atlanta. We thought the weather was going to wash us out seeing as it had rained 10 days straight before the event. Thankfully, the rain held off and it was a splendid spring day, a little overcast, but great temps and enough open field to kick a soccer ball and throw the frisbee. And they're off!

Theory of cute-a-tivity
This is my theory, hypothesis, and conclusion. Cute. Nolan got his glasses last week and he's so surprised that he can read things he couldn't before! We even had to reintroduce ourselves because he's only known a blurred version of his family. So, next time you see him and he doesn't recognize your face, give him a minute because he's meeting everyone again for the first time.

Easter (week later) Sunday
Sine the majority of us were either camping or beaching over Easter Sunday, we postponed our dinner/egg hunt to this past Sunday. Nana and Dawn set out over 200 eggs in the common area of Nana's neighborhood and let the kids have their go at hunting down treats. Reed and Nolan had their game faces on and probably collected most of the eggs!

Futbol, of the Silverbacks kind
Last weekend, the Halloran's joined us for a magical evening of soccer in Atlanta. The boys and I have been to one game last year, or the year before, but this was Todd's first game and now I think we've created a monster! I don't know who had more fun, him or the boys. We tailgater outside the stadium with a bucket of chicken and the boys found several other kids to kick the ball around with. We could hardly get them to sit down to eat!
The game was awesome and as fast paced as anything we've ever seen. Todd bought the boys the scarves people were wearing to support their favorite semi-professional Atlantan soccer team and we had great seats. After the game we were able to go on the field to get the players to autograph anything and everything. The boys had posters and spent the next half hour or so running up to just about every player they could find. It was too cute! This will definitely not be our last Silverbacks game. Todd is already talking about season tickets...oye!

Welcome back, old friend
It has been some time since one of the boys has lost a tooth, so last night was a real treat. Reed has been tugging on this tooth for the past couple of weeks and last night he pulled with his floss threader until it was loose and then YaNKed the bad boy out. No more baby canine tooth on his upper left side. The tooth fairy came for a visit and left him a dollar and some gum...his 2 favorite things in the world (aside from fox, of course) and he was delighted.

Stone Mountain Camping
This past weekend we packed up our tent, sleeping bags, camp food and air mattresses and headed to Stone Mountain campground with Sean and Lindara and crew and cousin Jenn and her two kiddos. We all got campsites right next to the lake and set up shop for the weekend. Every meal was planned and executed to the Nth degree. We definitely didn't go hungry! Friday night it rained in the middle of the night and the wind howled for hours keeping the adults awake. Thank goodness the kids could sleep through it! Saturday we found a green space at the front of the campground where the kids could play soccer, football, kickball and just run around uninhibited all day long. Saturday afternoon we hiked to the top of the mountain which was extremely windy but beautiful. I made the mistake of giving the boys hydration backpacks that held 2 liters of water. Needless to say, they would drink the entire lot on the way up and then have to pee 4 or 5 times on the way down...and it was crowded. It's hard to find a private place to pee in the woods when there's very few woods around and people were everywhere.
Saturday night we went to the laser show to show the kids what awesome graphics we grew up with. It was a pretty big let down for the adults who remember certain things about it from our wonder years, but the kids seemed to think it was ok. It wasn't their highly developed iPad graphics or anything, but entertaining nonetheless. At one point I was trying to explain to Nolan about the civil war and the north vs the south and how it was a long, long, long, looooong time ago. He looked up at me and innocently asked, "did Nana watch it on tv when she was little?" Ha! When I told him that it was so long ago they didn't have tv's during that war, he said, "oh, did she just take pictures of it?" Oops, forgot to tell him that the war happened before tv's AND waaaaay before Nana was born. It was funny, so I just laughed. (That will make for an interesting essay paper when he's in high school!)
Sunday morning, Lindara woke us up before the high crack of dawn so we could jump in the car and drive the 4 miles from the campsite to the base of the big granite mountain to partake in the sunrise hike/Easter service. There was so much traffic! I know, weird for Atlanta to have traffic (not really) but at 6am inside the park, it was crazy. We parked and made the 1 mile walk to the base just to do the mile hike up. We were all tired and cold but I'm so proud to say we ALL made it up before the sun rose! It was such an amazing sight to see the big beautiful sun coming up over to the east when all the while behind us the moon was still full and bright to the west. It was way to cold to stay for the service, let alone listen to it, so we headed back down the mountain and made our way back to camp to pack up and head home. We were dirty, stinky, smokey, sore, tired, and exhausted but it was an awesome weekend and we can't wait to do it again!

How many fingers?
Recently, we have been noticing Nolan squinting as he's trying to look at anything far away. Todd took the day off today and took him to the eye doctor. As it turns out, Nolan's vision is 20/200 and he needs glasses! Todd let him pick out the pair he liked best to make sure he would wear them and they look so doggone cute! The lenses won't be tinted but they are the sport-approved glasses. Shocker there! They will be back for us to pick up in 10days to 2 weeks, and Nolan kept telling me this tonight, just in case I forgot. How could I?!?
