Last night, Lindara, Dawn and I took a stroll down town for a little belly fillin', big city dwellin', traffic swillin', security guard charmin', tech campus wreckin', ballet watchin', good old Friday night.
First amazing feat was getting downtown ATL on a Friday night in traffic without getting in a wreck or shot. Check.
Second, trying to find Mary Mac's when 3 girls from OTP don't normally haunt that part of town. Check.
Third, finding parking. There's a small parking lot behind Mary Mac's but when we pulled up the lovely security guard told us it was full unless we had a handicapp tag. After telling her/him I'd limp and that didn't work, I then asked her/him/it if my good buddy 'Alexander Hamilton' would like to keep her company while we dined. Cones we're swiftly removed from the entrance and we were directed promptly to a nice spot up front! Check.
I cannot believe I have lived in Atlanta as long as I have and this was the first time I have ever been to this fine establishment. First of all, the whole place is quite interesting with its many unique rooms, but the most fun was ordering! So much to choose from and everything was so good!! Belly full, peach cobbler tackled. Check.
Then, off to find the Ferst Center on Ga Tech campus...in the rain... Not nearly as difficult as it should have been, but park in the corner, go down 2 flights of stairs, thru 2 parking lots, and behind the rather small white sculpture, ok, there it is!
The Urban Nurcracker awaits. We weren't the ONLY white people in the auditorium, but we definitely could have been picked out of a crowd. Culture. Check.
It wasn't all hip hop, Ebonics, and breakdancing, like we thought it was going to be. It was more just like the regular nutcracker but with an all black cast, one white sugar plum dancer, a drunk uncle at the beginning, and Big Mama telling the story from Sweet Auburn Avenue. Glad I went, probably won't make it a yearly thing, one more Atlanta McVenture...check.
