Battlefield Hike

As many years as I have lived in the metro Atlanta area, there is always something 'new' that I haven't crossed off a stay-cation bucket list. As of yesterday, the boys and I can now say that we have hiked to the top of Kennesaw Mountain. It's not that strenuous of a hike, but there are many hidden jagged rocks and roots that seem to jump up and catch one of their toes, even when told 100x to 'WALk, NOT RUN!' Since when does a 6-year-old listen to that?!? Well, since about 5 minutes into the hike, Nolan went running down the hill, tripped over an exposed root, and skinned up his knee. "I don't like this hike, I wanna go hooooome!"  Not a chance, bucko. We got him cleaned & bandaged up and headed back up the mountain...walking.
They were super interested in all the cannons along the way and asked what side we are on, the north or the south. Such a tough question to penetrate the mind of a 6-year-old (or 2) that looks at just about everything in terms of 'scores'. "What was the score of north v south?" "It probably wasn't fair to the north that the south had 5 cannons!" "Where did all the dead people go?" "How did they make these trails on the mountain 150 years ago?"  I tell you what, these boys are racking my brain DAILY and I am constantly impressed with myself as to the answers I come up with!! LoL. Most times they are correct, but in terms of the civil war, I would rather defer them to my old civil war teacher, Dr Terry, as he would know which button on what day the confederates fastened before another and in left-right or right-left fashion. Seriously, he was THAT good. For now, we salute and say "the south will RISE again! Go dawgs!"   ;0)
