If a tree falls in the woods...
It would be better than falling on my house! Last week, we made the excruciatingly sad decision to have the big, beautiful, lovely oak tree in our front yard cut down. A few years ago, we had a giant limb that was touching the house cut off and since then, the tree has been rapidly declining in health. A few if our neighbors were having some arbors taken down and we made the snap decision (but long talked about) to cut down the oak before it cuts into out house. It was a wise, yet sad, choice as the tree provided so much shade and shelter for a few woodland creatures. (And a good hiding spot for squirrels and chipmunks that Polly chases). The good news is that it wasn't all in vain as the middle of the trunk was hollow and riddled with rot. It could have fallen any day, or so says the 3-toothed man who thoughtlessly took a chainsaw to her and slung her guts into the chipper. Ok, so I'm a little dramatic, but it was such a staple in our front yard and it makes me sad not to see her anymore. On the plus side, we have a ton of firewood and our house is still in tact. Goodbye old friend!
